Artisans Villages

Masaya City is a heart of Nicaraguan folklore and one of the most significant craft hub in all of Central America. Typical crafts include hammocks, leather, fabric, and wood.


Catarina is a quiet colonial village, renowned for the nurseries of potted plants on the edge of Apoyo Crater Lake. This artisan village is home to woodworkers and bamboo basket weavers.


San Juan de Oriente boasts the title of Central America’s best-known ceramic village. Ceramic work has been taking place in the village for over 2000 years.  Seeing these artworks being created in their home environment is remarkable experience.


Masatepe produces hand-crafted wooden rocking chairs and town has a significant number of furniture pieces made of wood and wicker. 


Condega is a quiet village beautifully set in the northern mountains, producing exquisite pottery from red clay. In the area you will find some of the most magnificent pottery works you will ever see.


Jinotega is home to artisans who create impressive black ceramics. 


Matagalpa is a hilly city where you can explore textile and black ceramic workshops. Cotton textiles are progressively increasing in popularity recently.

Tour Day 1. Visit Masaya artisan market. Delicious lunch at Catarina, enjoy the sights of Apoyo crater lake and visit the woodworkers workshops. Afternoon visit San Juan de Oriente ceramic village.
